actually think the film is in with a really good chance

in just watched a couple of clips of the others and I suppose the main threat to Elaine's film winning would probably be Pride, about the miners strike - it actually looks pretty decent

anyway here's hoping she wins ,

That's alright Jim, it has it's bonuses living here, no snow, decent summers, not much rain

Wimp! Move to Bavaria, plenty of snow, -10° Celsius and no british TV

Edit: I had my reservations about the movie but after I'd seen it a few times I realized what a fantastic film it is. And by the way, Burnsworth is a shit hole.

No need, just go to FilmOn.com, all the freeview channels are on there and much more. Laptop plugged into big screen TV. Wife is upstairs watching the BAFTA's, I am down stairs just about to watch Match Of The Day

I guess coming runner-up isn't bad at all, after all NS isn't everybody's cup of tea, especially darn South where a lot of people live and have never heard/understood NS.

With BBC Films scooping the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema earlier in the evening, "Pride" (by BBC Films) was always going to win the Best Newcomer category.  Difficult to compete against all that TV Licence fee funding.

Walking with giants, well done once again to Elaine for even getting nominated x

Hopefully big things lie ahead for her !

A shame the BAFTA was out Elaine's grasp but a massive achievement for a self funded, self written and self directed film to be nominated.

I guess that grass root production doesn't count for much with BAFTA.

Regardless a whopping success :)

Another shame are the f££&witts who have signed up to the films FB page and are using this achievement as a platform for them to slag the film, you've got to be a div to join a page and then spend every post slagging it. This sites been great in that aspect with very few unthought out comments :)

have to agree with your comments bro, some people just aren't satisfied with anything..a woman who, along with her husband literally bankrupted theirselves to achieve their goal, has to be acknowledged and applauded for having the determination to go ahead with a project like this...fraught as it would be for anyone who knows the knife is gonna be stuck in and twisted at any given opportunity. i didn't feel disappointment at not seeing the film rewarded, ( i did really! ) just frustrated that well backed competitors always seem to have that edge. Elaine has done us all proud..the paranoid few simply don't get what it is to receive a bafta nomination anyway, that's exactly how well this film was thought of in the first place.....and if it gets the thumbs up from kermode ( like it did )...that's good enough for me anyway.

I enjoyed the film and dont give a damn about the opinions of Bafta.

The Bafta luvies will probably be back ploughing through NS tunes to get the right one for their next advertisements.

Elaine demonstrated she has the talent and imagination to go on and deliver the goods on a tiny budget; when generously financed she will doubtless produce a monster film. Who knows it might be the follow up to the Northern soul film.

Don't worry Steve, I found them and did the Job for you :) ;)

there on the thread where there's a picture of Elaine and the producer (Debbie?).

just don't get why someone would go on a thread where the director is celebrating, you'd expect what is one of the best nights of her life. Sad sad individuals.

My apologies. Only managed to log on recently. I wasn't aiming to wind anyone up by my comments. I just think it was overall a poor film with an obvious plot and some pretty poor acting (save for the lead) and obvious script. The Billy Elliott reference was a joke and I'm stunned anyone actually thinks that such a comparison is a good one! SoulBoy isn't a classic and may not have as many friends as NS has but I think it was more honest. Perhaps I was looking forward to it too much.

I love Northern Soul and the music and dancing, but I'm afraid (judging by the people I watched this with) NS will do barely anything to reinvigorate the genre.

Congratulatons on the award and good luck to all concerned in the future, but for me it's a profound let down.

Soul Boy was more honest? In what way? It felt like a construct from the first scene - incredibly poorly shot, the story made little sense and the acting was also poor. Also walking from Wigan to Stoke and Dance offs - little honesty there for me.

And for Elaine's film failing to reinvigorate the genre - that was never the intention, too many people saw this as an opportunity to pick up the mantle of Northern Souls fluffy marketing piece to attract these fresh vibrant young guns. The honesty in the film lay in the fact that it portrayed the scene warts and all and that is something to celebrate in my view.
