Australian National Soul Weekender Nov 12 - 14

Australian National Soul Weekender Nov 12 - 14 magazine cover

As Northern Soul was an underground scene in the UK, it has remained so in Australia. Moving over here from the UK as most of us did, it could take a while to settle in and many weren't aware there was a scene here. Particularly before the internet became part of our daily routine. I think there are lots here in Sydney who don't know yet!

Maybe we'll find them this year.

The Australian National is an annual event and is held in a different city every year. Last year it was held in The Gold Coast and I accepted "The Baton" for the event to be held in Sydney this year. - 2010 We have been carefully selecting venues - which must have sprung wooden floors!

As this is arguably one of , if not the, the biggest rare soul event in the world outside the UK, I trust the that moderators might allow one the liberty of posting this in the main section of the site because of its significance.

So many reasons for you all to come ...

Australia is one of the few countries to have avoided the GFC ( the global financial recession , stupid! ) so this is a good opportunity to really come "darn south" and enjoy the good times with soul. The sun will be beating down on Bondi Beach and the Barmy Army wil be down in force to watch England get completely stuffed in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on 25 - 29 November 2010.

So you might as well combine your Soul Trip with an Ashes tour and try to forget the lamentable performance of England at the World Cup !

The 13th Australian Northern Soul Weekender is this year being hosted in Sydney from 12 - 14 November 2010 so really you should be booking your plane tickets now.

Good day! Friends of ours moved to Oz a while ago Barry & Kay Simpson, Barry was a keen collector and DJ in the UK, perhaps you know of them.

Also the wife's brother is locating to Perth late September from Leeds and is taking a copy of Ghost in my house with him. Is there any do's on in Perth (just for when we visit him). He's not really into northern but we dragged him along to the Harold Club in Bradford to try and educate him.

If any of you aint met Johnny Red Pants then get over to Ozzie weekender, he is an institution like Skippy and Fosters....

Hi, a friend of mine (female) is interested in going and wonders who else is going from the UK as she wants to know if any (females) want to share a hotel room - to save costs and also someone/s to travel over with as long plane journey, if anyone can assist, please contact me so I can pass on to her as she isnt on here. Thanks. C

Hi there, been too busy putting it together to post on here! Have a look on the website got the venues we wanted. The Friday night one is a bit later than I wanted but the big plus is that drinks are at club prices which is brill for the Friday night and it is slap bang in the centre of Sydney.

There is one of the girls travelling on her own asked me the same question about who she could travel with, maybe it's the same person? I'll PM you.

Only ten weeks to go now!

Yes Barry and Kay will be here! Barry collects everything in sight! His patches from all the National weekenders are displayed on my website on the page for the Weekender.

I wonder if my very good old West Yorkshire mate Ady Harley will be there.

Saw Ady when he came back for the first Stafford reunion in 2005...

If you're on here Ady remember the car crash we were in in Siddal after the pub?

Hi Mick,

Ah yes - Ady will be there that's for sure! Great guy and friend!

He's not on Soulsource but I will tell him about your post.

Car crash? That explains a lot... ;-)

Off to Sydney in the morning. Fly out of Perth at 7am. 40 odd soulies travelling from the West

Sue and I are really looking forward to a fantastic weekender.

60 last week, knackered knees, but still love a dance.

Figured out that attending all the venues, plus Saturday afternoon will result in 34 hours soul and 40/50 pints soul related drinking (as long as I don't get into a Guinness session with Nigel, Ian, John and Eric, then God help me!)

About 20 hours sleep from Thursday to Monday, 4100 air miles travelled, 1/2 hour sightseeing, some shopping, 4 or 5 hours eating. Back home midnight Monday, in work Tuesday for a rest! Brilliant!!
