26th May 2003 Soul In The City Charity All- Dayer That time of the year again but a bit of a difference this time. Fed up of waiting for a dance floor to be installed in our usual venue & facing the unenviable task of getting people to dance on carpet we put our heads together&decided to ask Johnnie T.if he fancied putting on a joint SITC/Valatone Dayer at the St Aloysious club, home to Johnnies 100 club warm up. In the event he was going to be away that weekend but was happy to have us using the venue especially as we had decided to make it a charity bash, the charity being London's Guy's Hospitals childrens renal unit. Having secured the venue we then managed to bring in Father&Son duo Ady&Tommy Potts together with Steve Csordas&Peter Jay to do guest spots for us. Thanks to Peter also for providing the equipment for the day. As we all know Bank Holiday weather is always crap,so people will always want something to do to take their minds off the rain etc. So to wake up to sunshine was mildly worrying , by mid day the sun was blazing&you wonder if you've been bad in a previous life ! Anyway get to the venue on time for once, to find Peter well on the way to sorting the equipment&a few tweaks later by 3pm the doors were open&we were away with yours truly kicking off our 3rd all dayer with April May&June - He Went Away on RCA. A few trickled through the door early on, Simon&Steve&ladies from the south coast, regular SITC supporters Stubbsy, Andy&Geoff&various others who wanted to watch Wolves smash Sheff Utd. on the big screen but a bit of a quiet start. A group actually came in to explain that they would be back later but it was such a lovely day outside they were going to go sit in the sun&have a few beers first!. Janet Murray danced to just about every record played on a very sticky dance floor&I worried about how many were going to turn up (Now there's a surprise!) A slow start but good music from all&from about 7pm people started piling in. Thanks to Ady&Tommy who despite being at the Ritz All Niter&suffering from Motorway disentry managed to get down&provide two fantastic sets. Thanks also to our other guests Steve&Peter for their brilliant sets. The sticky floor was proving to be a bugger so despite the posters on the walls "warning"against, a courier was sent out for talc &oh did that liven up proceedings ! The floor started to fill&stayed that way for the rest of the night. In the end a brilliant day. Thanks to our guests plus regular DJ's Martin Thomson, Paul McKay&myself Dave Greenhill. After paying for the hire of the venue we were able to give Guys hospital £260 A big thanks from SITC for everyone supporting this&a big thanks from me to Randy&Karen for coming along.
