Save the Ritz

Apparently the Ritz Hotel are taking legal action to prevent the Ritz Ballroom at Brighouse using the name Ritz.

How crazy is that.

This is Ginger Taylor's residency and one of the UK's premier Northern Soul Venues.

Research the internet for BBC, London Standard and Telegraph and Argus etc News.

Come on everyone

This can't be allowed to happen!!!!

So it's now clear that London Ritz's motivation is to get hold of Brighouse Ritz's website domain name "liveattheritz" - they don't really care what the ballroom's called or if it has to close as a result of their legal tactics.

So - are there any lawyers in this group who can offer some free advice to Glenn the owner?  At least stalling the threat of legal action?

And in parallel - any members who can influence the media?  It's already been on regional TV I understand and feels like a story that could be escalated to national TV.

There's also an online petition gathering momentum https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-brighouse-ritzs-identity .... every signature helps.

Cheers...............Pete

I posted the original 'Save the Ritz'

Me and my friends travel from Stafford and just outside London to the Ritz.

It's up there with Stoke and Blackpool.

More than happy to sign the petition

Arrogant corporate bullies, I have e mailed my MP, also the MP for Brighouse  craig.whittaker.mp@parliament.uk .

May be an idea for SS members to  contact their MP, copy in the chap from Brighouse.

The more 'noise' the better, the 'man in the street' already has one big recent victory!!!

I have withdrawn my patronage of the Ritz Hotel in protest, and signed the petition.

Just looked at the website.

It would appear Glen has closed the Ritz until further notice

Shame on the London Ritz. They deserve to lose any legal case as the word is in common usage and has been for decades. That said, the justice system in Britain is corrupt and biased in favour of the greedy rich who can afford it and the even greedier judges, barristers and solicitors who make sure they get stinking-rich on the proceeds. A simple solution would be to rename the ballroom the Triz, generate some anti-hotel publicity and see whether the legal clowns can handle a piss-take response.

Ee by gum why don't they re-name it the Reetz pronounced Ritz of course by the regulars. I heard a lot of the Ritz [London Hotel that is] customers complained that they had gone to Brighouse first only to be told they had the wrong venue, they must be crackers [Ritz that is] if they didn't realise sooner, so to avoid any further confusion Ritz Hotel London are taking legal action. After all is not an apple a fruit, not anymore it's raincoat!

Serve 'em right. If you can't read a map, that's what happens. I blame the chauffers who can't programme SatNavs but why take it out on a ballroom. I thought Apple was a record label - did something happen to change this?

Yes Apple was a record label & I never noticed the Apples setting a load of lawyers on them. The bible now makes more sense Eve was clearly offering Adam a raincoat to cover his meat & 2 veg up or was it a 12" record, either way it works.
