Funk Brothers Tribute / Eddie Willis Fundraiser live in Detroit 16 Nov 2013

For Your Information - Copied from Soulful Detroit, Motown Forum

Original Funk Brothers guitarist Eddie Willis will be coming to Detroit for a very rare intimate appearance at the Northern Lights Lounge on Saturday, November 16th at 7:00pm. The event will have a question and answer session with Eddie, plus a concert of deep cuts and big hits with Eddie, Dennis Coffey, The Drew Schultz Funk Machine, and longtime members of the Funk Brothers touring band including Delbert Nelson, Treaty Womack, Spider Webb, Robert Jones, Ralphe Armstrong, Donna Curtain, and many more. We'll also have stories and memories of The Funk Brothers recounted by some Detroit Legends.

Eddie has been suffering from the effects of Polio for some time now, and 100% of the profits from the show will be donated to Eddie and his wife. There will be a $15 cover with a suggested donation, as well as several cool signed pieces of Funk Brothers memorabilia auctioned off!

If you'd like to get a ticket in advance, we've set up an unconventional sale through ebay - this works around the "convenience" fees that other companies charge for simply printing tickets or holding at will call. That page is here:

Hope to see you there!

I might get in trouble for this, but Eddie is worth it! For more info, go to the Soulful Detroit site (maybe you can participate in the auction).

Very sad that he has polio. You aint a guitarist if you can't " chank " so his ongoing influence is secured. This sounds like a fantastic event - just sorry I can't get to it.

lorraine,

it's a shame that we may never see his likes in the u.k. again...think those who attended the concerts in 2004 were mighty privileged....i also believe that the in-fighting prevented the surviving members from giving us so much more, that we craved and will eternally regret. we have, of course, as our heritage, the musical soundtrack that was, and still is, their creation. eddie gave his heart, soul and long hours in the relentless pursuit of perfection, as a band the guys were an unstoppable force...berry gordy has taken a long time to give them recognition....perhaps now, more than ever, he should step in to help eddie in his time of need or will he never truly know, in such high esteem, his beloved musicians are held. what you are doing is honorable, it's the least you could do, you've known these people all your life long...if you decide to market a video of this showcase, i will most definitely contribute...i envy the folks who will still be able to see mr. willis in the flesh...i just have the treasured memory of 2004, when they finally came out of the shadows...god bless your man eddie.

To the SS family,

I realize most of us cannot jump on a plane and attend functions of our choice at the drop of a hat, so I just wanted you all to have the opportunity to send your 'flowers' to Eddie Willis while he can appreciate them.  I have asked if they can open up the auction worldwide to help Eddie even more.  I will keep you posted on this as soon as I receive an answer.

Even though it is a fact of life, It is heartbreaking to see so many RIP's of people who were a part of our lives and don't even know it.  It pains me to see the RIP's ripping through this and other musical websites every week.  Let us honor ourselves and others while we can (that is why I am such a big birthday fan!).

Stay tuned for the auction info.

Hi Lorraine and BoyFromXTown! I do need to put some thought into the auction to allow folks who can't be there in person to take part. Maybe a live Skype - type group video streaming chat room for that portion? I think that could be doable. Let me do some detective work and look into it!

Thomas, Joe does indeed still live in the area, and Eddie has mentioned that he's reaching out. I hope he comes through too, it would be phenomenal to have Eddie, Dennis, and Joe all together!

(Drew is talking about Dennis Coffee and Joe Messina.    I hope Drew can do this so you all can bid on the items.  Stay tuned!  ~  Lorraine)
