'SOUL NIGHT OUT SPECIAL' WITH AMERICAN SOUL LEGEND BOBBY WOMACK

Saturday 25 June 2011, 8pm

One of the greatest voices in soul music and Gorillaz "STYLO" vocalist makes his Blackburn debut.

Bobby Womack is a stalwart soul and gospel legend whose resume includes musical contributions across the four decades as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. He has written songs for Wilson Pickett, George Benson, Janis Joplin and dozens of others. A solid guitarist who worked on the Memphis session scene for a period in the Sixties, Womack played on sessions for Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Joe Tex, King Curtis, Dusty Springfield and other soul and R&B artists.

In 2010, Womack contributed lyrics and sang on "Stylo" alongside Mos Def, the first single from the third Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach which led to him hitting the road as a special guest accompanying Gorillaz on their full world tour.

This is Bobby's ONLY UK concert date outside of London so don't miss out!!

Wow!!! Mega news indeed, Bobby has managed to stay relevant musically and as far as the Northernsoul Scene is concerned he is one of the few artists who seem to appeal to all of the genres including oldies and modern!

I can't wait!!!

Bobby will always be part of my Northernsoul journey for me with "So many sides of you" and that superb album from "So Many Rivers"!

Sorry to be negative but wheres his head at currently? I was one of the many disappointed folk at the Birmingham Hilton a few years ago when he stropped on sang three tracks and cleared off. Not value for money at £35 a head for tickets!

I d love to see him when he s in the mood tho!

Why bring a major star over for one gig only? The potential for selling gigs out is there for all to see, same scenario with the impressions, legends but only 2 dates.By the way,saw bobby at the manchester apollo a couple of years ago,he was very much in the mood that night and delivered!

Apparently he's also playing four nights at The Jazz Cafe in London.

Pity he's not doing more shows around the country.

What a pity this clashes with the Brid weekender!

Hundreds who would otherwise have gone will miss this gig

Can you move it back a week Kev? ........

Saw him in '84 during 'The Poet' tour, lots of folk type stuff mixed in wth his 60's solo stuff and lots of his Poet album (which i personally love & still have).

hopefully as Kev says, if he hits the audience with HIWTHI etc etc, then a good night will be on the cards  .

When it was first mentioned I quickly got my tickets for Monday night at the Jazz Cafe, booked the train and hotel and sat back and looked forward to it.

Now all of a sudden it is

- 'this is Bobby's first appearance for quite some time we are proud to bring him to the UKs number one soul night' - he's doing FOUR nights at the Jazz Cafe first!!,

- he was ''crap' last time!,

- it clashes with something else!,

- he's not doing enough dates!

I was so looking forward to ityes.gif

Yeah, I was in Birmingham too that night and it wasn't good.

In fact one of the girls with us (a big fan) , it took her about three years before she bring herself round to playing his records at home again.

Sorry Mike, I m really not trying to be a prophet of doom but I ve been stung before and would like a bit of reassurance that BW is in the mood for a tour. Looks like a fair number of dates but I m not going to buy tickets, book a room and book time off work without a bit more information. I really hope that he is totally up for putting on great shows this time.
