This is the same weekend as Radcliffe all niter?? a good chance for folk to really make a weekend of it in Manchester....

Gonna be much interest in this one off for sure....

Bank hols for Ireland and Scotland , i know a few from over the water who could be up for this..

To be honest that's one of things which worries me about this gig............

Yep, it'll be an event for sure Stevie. I think it'll be the first time that all the original DJ's have been together on the same bill since the heyday of the Ritz in the mid 70's.

Will the decks still be as bad? Will that bouncy, springy dancefloor still pound to the stomping of 2000 feet some 35 years later? What kind of set will Levine play? Will there be a spate of elderly discombobulated but happy people staggering around Manchester city centre in the early hours of 01/08/11?

Questions, questions.......

It was great fun back in the day Ian.

As long as I stay off the drink, I shoud be ok, unlike at Neil's All-Dayer at South Cave.

I ended up getting pissed and was mooning all over the place, not good at our age.

Anyway after that I said I am never drinking again.

Do you know I only had this dicussion two months ago with Browny .... Why hasn't/doesn't anyone do a manchester Ritz reunion ? Will defo come along to this the place has some great memories for us.... bouncy bouncy floor !

The biggest mooning scenario was at one of the massive Bank Holiday All-Dayers we did at Blackpool Mecca.

Ian and Paul said it was a matter of honour that we had more people mooning than they would have at the Purley All-Dayer taking place at same time.

Good as gold maybe a 1,000 plus people showed their asses - and the Mecca manager, who was new, went absolutely mad at me and threatened to stop the All-Dayer there and then. I had to say if he wanted a riot he should go ahead and do so, and luckily he saw sense and backed off.

Moodiest artist we ever had at those Mecca All-Dayers was Chris Hills (not Chris Hill the DJ) of Players Association. He was a nightmare, and nothing we did was good enough for him. With 3,000 plus people in it must have been one of the best audiences he ever played to, but he moaned about everything.

Others - like Sylvester, Al Hudson, Brass Construction,Crown Heights Affair - were great to deal with.

Worse artist was Eddie Kendricks - he cancelled his UK tour and left us in the lurch.

The Junior Walker, Edwin Starr and Miracles at The Mecca were befroe the Heart Of England Soul Club All-Dayers.

And The Ric-Tic Revue at The Ritz after the Heart Of England Soul Club promotions. I was in hospital having wisdom teeth out and couldn't go.

Went to the Ritz in Novmeber to see Sharon Jones, the floor had seen better days, wouldn't miss this one for the world, LEVINE out of retirement???

At long last Neil & well done to all involved with managing to gather together the DJ's that made this what for me was the very best in any of the 1970's soul venues. God how I loved this place! Back then I had friends that I went to the Casino with, Family & friends I went to Jazz Funk Clubs with, then at the Ritz it all came together just as it should be, I have many "revolving dance floor memories" from Neils soul fusion dayers one I'll never forget was the first time I danced to Jackie McLean well before it was on general sale on uk RCA what a dance track & to me it just seamed to sum up the war between 60's northern & 70's crossover, jazz funk, funky disco or whatever you want to call this great dance music! Two tickets already paid for Neil

bloody hell ian, when was the last time you went to the ritz?!........for those who cant remember,..NO RAISED DANCEFLOOR,....SORRY TO SPOIL THE MEMORIES!, DEFINITELY QUALITY DECKS AND YES, DESPITE NO "RAISE" THE FLOOR STILL BOUNCES......IN WHICH CASE, I HAVE TO ASK....BUT PLEASE TELL ME......EXACTLY HOW MANY OF YOU WENT TO THE RITZ IN THE LAST DECADE?......HOW MANY OF YOU MISSED OUT ON THE "LEGENDARY" ALL-NIGHTERS INCLUDING THE WORLDS GREATEST "RAREST OF THE RARE" EVENT EVERY MAY-DAY BANK-HOLIDAY??. credit to neil for getting this together, but i have to say, ive known this to be on the cards for quite a while....just a case of waiting for the date.......

WOW!, WHAT A WEEKEND THIS WILL BE ( YES, IM IN TOTAL AGREEANCE ) to see mr.searling behind the decks again at the venue that hosted his 50th and a magical appearance by THE ORIGINALS as part of his celebrations......without doubt MY FAVOURITE VENUE OF ALL-TIME, knowing that this place still existed and having waited 5 years for someone else to take up the mantle, justice has been done putting it back on the calender of "must visit" events......my one gripe.......pity the queue isnt at 10PM,..NOT 11AM....but then again.....it may be the first successful all-dayer....IN YEARS!!

We were there that for that too.

There was a rather dodgy stench that was like cheesy feet and Mrs G was certain it was coming from the cracks between the boards on the dancefloor. The whole place looked shabbier than ever too, although again, Mrs G says it was like that when we went to the Rarest of the Rare and Detroit/Chicago allnighters. In my memory it was really glamorous in the 70s. Probably something in the beer...

Despite all of the above we had a great time at Sharon Jones and I still love the old place. Gonna have to try to get to this

Great days, i used to think all the funksters (from the south) were from Mars, drainpipes, winkle pickers & mohair jumpers and wedge hairstyle, but they were just ahead of their time.

Some great tunes spun by Curtis, Idris Mohammid, one called 'Wings of a pheonix' dont know who by? Center City? I was blinkered with northern & a bit young to really appriciate that things had moved on.

Also, that springy dancefloor was superb.

Will deffo go to this.

On the funk side, remember getting a free 12" of brass constuction called 'under construction' free on entry, in fact that happened a lot, a free reissue for the first people in, mad that, think i got a coasters one ive just recently found, wasnt sure where it came from, but thinking about it now thats it.

Benny golson thats it, cool layed back track that.

To be honest, was just into NS in those days, bit young, but those tracks never escaped my attention.
