Event Title: BURNLEY ALLNIGHTER, THE KESTRAL SUITE

Event Author: Sean Haydon

Calendar: Allnighter/Weekenders

Event Date: Sat 22 January 2011

-------------------------------------------------

BURNLEY ALLNIGHTER, THE KESTRAL SUITE.

(THE NEXT CHAPTER)

Following Barrie's unfortunate announcement that he no longer wishes to continue with the Burnley Allnighter, myself and Karl Heard have taken The Kestral Suite on to continue the nighters.

We are aware that another venue is not strictly necessary with what appears to be a very busy nighter schedule, but feel that Burnley has played such an important part in our scene over the last few years, together with the fact that we have had so much interest from the original regular attendees, is the main reason to give it a try. It would be a shame to lose such an event that Phil Kowalski created.

Both Karl and I have approached Phil in the hope that he would join us, but regretfully, due to other circumstances, has declined.

Not wanting to offend anyone or tread on toes, we aim at just having four nights per year. We feel that by doing this allows us the flexibility to work with and around other nighters throughout the calendar. Allnighters that we enjoy attending and promoters that we respect.

The club will have no hard and fast music policy and a no politics principle. It's not about DJ egos or club competition, just a place where people can come to enjoy themselves, hear some fantastic music and be happy.

The first night is booked for January the 22nd with the following DJ's confirmed. (In no order).

Willie West

Big Danny

Jumping Joan

Fred Kroll

Cliff Camfield

Stuart Bennet

Myself & Karl Heard.

With this line up and the original sound system, we aim to please.

If anyone has any questions or would like to discuss anything, please either PM me or email me at seanhaydon@me.com

Many thanks and hope to see you there.

Sean

By the time you fully compose your thoughts mate we'll be having soul afternoons in our retirement complex laugh.giflaugh.gif. Though I probably won't have even started to compose my head by then.

Right onto the serious matter of a lookback/review for last night, short and to the point:

Brilliant, buzzing and with so many of the nighter crowd in attendance it was heaving, hot, sweaty and I loved it......banging tunes from everyone, across the genres, of mixed tempos and great blend of 'new' and 'known' with one common factor running through all of them.....they were dancers and the floor took a pounding as people showed their appreciation. Top night run by two top people........well done guys, you deserve it :hatsoff2:

I have to write something just to let those who were not there understand exactly what happened last night.

We got there at 10.10pm - a whole 10 minutes after the place officially opened. I was gob-smacked to walk in to a room with at least 100 people in. WTF? When does that happen these days.

By 12am Karl was worried that he would have to close the doors as there was over 200 in :hatsoff2: That is a one hell of an achievement in anyones book.

The dance floor was completely and totally rammed all night - and I mean right up til 6am. While this is a bit of a pisser to those of us who like to spread out when we express ourselves to the music (me and Elaine) - who gives a fcuk!

A perfect 10 out of 10 guys. What an absolutely incredible night. It was amazing!

You took the words from me Joan. When we walked in at 10 it was rammed. Still rammed when we left at half 5. Music was top notch all night . My knee withheld the toil....but will no doubt be hobbling like a good un for the rest of the week!!

All I can say is FANTASTIC

Here's to the next one in April.

Well done

Was a top night indeed, and well deserved for 2 great guys :hatsoff2:

Mind you, I spoke to Karl about 6pm Saturday evening and his head was right in the shed laugh.gif

By the way he was going on you have thought he had rewired & recarpeted the place before opening as well as wittling new furniture from a couple of local oak trees with nowt but the use of a penknife

Though the highlight of the night had to be seeing Beggsy and Rimmers faces when they first went the bar before the beer arrived.

I'm sure Beggsy nearly went into shock laugh.gif:thumbsup:

Had to leave around 4ish cus Des wasn't feeling too well.

He'd had chest pains and a numb left arm the week before and neither Beggsy nor I had any breakdown cover on us, so didn't fancy being stuck on the M6 if Mr Parker threw a seven on the way home.

there was so much music id no clue as to who? what it was called . the first two spots set the tone though. willie,s set was pretty brave , but hugely enjoyable and 95 % of seans set was completely new to me. i wanted to ask joan what was the instrumental you played? But as i was originally headin off for a smoke and got distracted by the tunes i was hearing i thought id miss one if i went to the stage, so stayed in same spot on dancefloor.a wise choice . to the blond lass from the midlands who spins like eleanor powell i meant to say just that to but instead gave you a clip round the ear instead. im so sorry! But please look up eleanor powell on you tube , you,ll see what i mean. Thanks again for a great night.

Derek had been going on and on about this for some time but I wasn't convinced, I love "progressive soul music" but I have often been disappointed at various venues who have served up tiered and unimaginative "B" side standard dross straight from the CD Northernsoul Floor Clearer's Volume 16 my other fear was that I was setting out for a wasted Allnighter where yet again the dancers come a poor second to the beard stroking collectors trying to outdo each other and being clever.

I had also heard that there where rumour of a female DJ, something that I do not approve of and something that is still illegal in South Yorkshire!

We gathered our little band of South Yorkshire Soul Searchers and set out into the night, our destination Burnley.

We arrived very soon after the doors had opened and the first thing that was apparent was that the place was full and the dance floor was kicking! I literally looked at my watch to see if we had killed some time and arrived late but no, we were right on the button and the throng of early punters out on the floor was a settling sight indeed.

Quick scary around the room to see who was there and I'd guess that there was a healthy mix of "Nighter Faces" and fresh faces, which was great to see and on a purvey note, there was some well smart looking ladies, not that I'm interested in that sort of thing being married and all that.

I spoke to Karl and Sean at the beginning of the night and Karl told me that they were going to do their damdest to avoid any "flat spots", concentrating on the quality, tempo, and dancability without playing safe, laudable sentiment but the night was young.

I joined our little band of brothers, The Derbyshire Massive, who had got lost, and the usual whoop of dancers who are seen at most Allnightrers and as far as I'm concerned the only litmus test worth a dam.

I ventured out onto the dance floor like a young Billy Eliot wearing shorts and trainers and soon I was part of the thrash, the dance floor was chocker blocker and the room was limited to the more expressive dancers, I dance as if I'm mixing a pudding and I look as if I have eaten too many!

The dance space was easily adapted to and to be honest the heaving mass was a celebration of Northernsoul that may sound a little over the top but the punters who had ventured out this night where eager and ready to have their boundaries stretched and their ears educated.

I have been to many venues and heard new unknown stuff and to be honest I enjoy this immensely but it is not for everyone, I will say this with my hand on my heart and that is that I have never heard so many new sounds that pleased my all in one evening less for when I first started my Northernsoul journey many years ago.

The evening was a superb triumph and the clientele who are going to become the regulars of this stunning Allnighter are in for a treat, all I ask is that you don't lower the tempo during the dreaded 4 O'clock hour as many Allnightrers do for some reason killing the ambiance.

I was extremely impressed with what I got, outstanding accounts from all DJ's, including the bird who was playing, brilliant night and now firmly penned into my social calendar, well done to all involved.

P.S. There were some subtle yet nice additions to the evening, no stupid over the top bag searches that can often be embarrassing, Derek was found in the position of an anal intruder at Bidds that he said he used for his sore neck, Mace confiscated this a few months back and Derek is still waiting for its return.

Mega, and I mean MEGA to see a sensible "talc" policy, not Mrs Mop running up behind you tutting and finger wagging!

Great Job, Great Night.

Fred Kroll can you please tell me what the first three records where that you played, loved them and you should have played a few more seventies disks, there are far too few venues nodding towards the seventies and I think more would have fitted I, Oldies some times make me kill prostitutes after a while so well done for those three track and can we have more!!

And there were still clean paper towels in the Gents at 4am! Amazing.

Another fantastic night at Burnley - packed with a well deserved crowd.

Haven't been for ages due to unfortunate combination of unstable asthma and badly fractured ankle between us. Found I was able to dance without wheezing and reaching for inhaler : )

What a night to return! Great sounds, friendly crowd, venue better than last time - even allowed talc on the floor.

Now limping, feeling very vague and trying to prepare for work and M60 rush hour drive tomorrow - why didn't I book the day off?

Looking forward to the next one.

Like anywhere you go, not all the music was to my taste but that matters not. The place was rocking and the dance floor rammed from start to finish - and I mean start to finish.

I have not been to a nighter like that for many years.

The plan was to get in early doors and bag a table and have a base for the night... 10.12 i walked through the door and the fu"king place was packed  ,

Good vibe from a real good seasoned niter crowd with a smattering of youth, a reeeeeeeeet good mix..

Had a social night and had many chats as could not get on the dancefloor many times in the night, chocker and bouncing, just what any dj wants to see...

Really good to have a good chat with bloke from Carlisle ( soul source member and had a freind called Pip ) thanks for the cds, will get them played tonight...

And a good chat with yet another Steve and his good wife, pleasure to chew your ears off....

So pleased for the promotions team and all involved, all the hard work paid off...

Got a lift back home to my door from them really nice :lamsey: shaggers, top blokes indeed..

Deep soul Sunday for me now after a niter  " little Ann singing " deep shadows" .. Had my ying bigtime last night... Time for yang now....
